RAKSHABANDHAN - KAL AAJ AUR KAL
Rakshabandhan is round the corner , the markets decorated with various stalls adorned with beautiful , colourful rakhis. The shops shouting out The Rakhi offers , the hoardings displaying Kolkatta Rakhi , Rajasthani Rakhi n blah blah that brain starts doing somersaults inside the head . Does anybody differentiate or is an expert on recognising the particular Rakhi , Well I am not .
My earliest memory of Rakshabandhan is the DD national playing the songs " Mere bhaiya mere Chanda " and " Phoolon ka taaron ka sab ka kehna hai " on the most awaited Chitrahaar which used to be aired on Wednesday and Friday . While listening to these songs I used to wonder that such loving siblings actually existed🤔. Me and my brother used to create a daily Mahabharata series at our home , our weapons ( bat , broom , etc etc ) putting real Mahabharata's weapons to shame .
Rakshabandhan KAL
Rakshabandhan in yester years was all about eating meethe ladoo , gulab jamuns . Our house looked like a little fair with so many relatives of all the ages . Elderly sisters for elderly brothers , younger ones for younger bothers and so many kiddos around that a full on play school could be made functional then and there.
Big teekas on brother's forehead , big glittery sponge rakhis with yum yum mithai a and sweet rice. The sisters were given a token amount of rupees 10 , 20, 50 based on their age. For a few hours the Bhai who was named all the possible rowdy animals like monkey, dog, gorilla became pyaar Bhai till he handed the token amount and again everything was sorted😜Mom used to cook yummy delicacies
and all the elderly members had a very important job on hand discussing politics , relatives , financial situation of India , kids playing kho kho or fire on the mountain . That was the rakshabandhan of yesterday .
RAKSHABANDHAN AAJ
The today's rakshabandhan is more commercialised and I really think it's more of celebration for the card industry and chocolate industry . We all wait for a certain chocolate advertisement which is known for its superb creativity to show us the latest advertisement on rakshabandhan. The mithai is now so LS 😱 . The customary Shagun amount is now replaced by big glossy gifts which know no bounds. Rakhis are now high tech since more than emotions they carry Made in China tag . All the Disney characters find a place in latest rakhis with the laser eyes and what not🙄 . The e shopping brigade has thousand of offers and all of them stating they are no 1 site . Kids now enjoy a Pizza Hut or dominos party after the Rakhi ceremony but one thing still not changed , brother is a one day bhaiya raja till he hands over a glossy packed gift to his sister and than again everything is sorted ( monkey , donkey , gorilla).
RAKSHABANDHAN KAL
The speed at which the rakshabandhan is getting commercialised and high tech , I think the rakhis of future will have in built sensors which will help the Rakhi to wound itself on bhai's arm the moment it will touch his arm . The future might have a virtual rakshabandhan , wherein a sister will put a teeka on her computer screen and it will be visible on brother 's forehead . The gifts will be hi tech , the sweets high tech but I know one thing is never going to change the little tiff of a brother and sister and their never ending love .
Happy rakshabandhan folks!!!!!!
